On February 24th, 2016, the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion (MIDI) published a new list of 58 professions admissible for simplified processing of Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) applications. This means 4 more than last year. We note the emergence of some professions such as welder and welders related machine operators (NOC 7237), computer engineer (NOC 2147) but also landscape and horticultural technicians (CNP 2225), financial analyst and investment analyst (NOC 1112) and finally chief financial officer (NOC 0111).
The only profession that was removed from the list is butchers, meat cutters and fishmongers – retail and wholesale (NOC 6331)
We must remember that simplified processing allows employers to be exempt of having demonstrating their recruitment efforts in support of a LMIA application.
This new list relies on the 2011 National Occupational Classification (NOC) which is the updated version of the 2006 National Occupational Classification (NOC).
As last year, the new list came into force on February 24th, 2017, but applicants may continue to use the previous 2016 list for a transition period of thirty (30) days.
We invite you to contact us for more information regarding the new list of professions and the requirements and conditions to access the profession that are crucial in the evaluation of temporary work permit application within the simplified processing.
