New rules regarding receipt of economic class applications

On March 30th, 2017, the Ministère de l’Immigration,de la Diversité de l’Inclusion (MIDI) released a ministerial ruling by which the method of receiving and treating selection certificates for the sub-category of economic immigrants, qualified workers, investors, self-employed and entrepreneurs was outlined.

It is important to note that the quota for the sub-category of Quebec skilled workers has been fixed at 5 000 CSQ applications for the year to come. In comparison, 2016 saw the submission of 10 000 of these applications. With respect to the investor sub-category, the quota is fixed at 1 900, of which a maximum of 1 330 will be accepted from the Republic of China, including Hong-Kong and Macao. Keep in mind that these applications must be received between May 29th, 2017, and February 23, 2018, to be in accordance with today’s announcement.

It is also quite pertinent to note that starting on April 1st, 2017, and up until March 31st, 2018, the CSQ applications under the sub-categories of entrepreneurs and self-employed workers are suspended by the MIDI.
